Cheap flights by month: six routes, real fares
The month you fly moves the fare more than any trick. On 10 July 2026 we pulled live fares for 59 routes from the same Travelpayouts feed that powers the search above. 34 of the 59 hit their lowest price in August or September. New York to Tokyo cost 698 USD in September and 1,432 USD in December: same route, twice the price.
If you are hunting cheap flights from New York or cheap flights from Los Angeles, the pattern mostly holds: the low months sit in late summer and autumn, the expensive ones around Christmas and midsummer. Treat this as a snapshot, not a law. It is one pull date and the lowest fare per calendar month. Thefull 59-route price study has every route, the Oslo departures in NOK, and how many fares sit behind each row.
Three habits that beat any fare hack
Search with flexible dates first. Cheap flights with flexible dates are easier to find because moving the trip by a day or two matters more than any trick: Tuesday and Wednesday departures run about 13 percent below Friday and Sunday in Google's fare data, while the day you press book barely matters.
Then watch one route for a week. You only recognize a low fare once you have seen the high ones, and a few mornings of checking the same dates tells you where the floor sits.
Last, compare the whole trip, not the ticket. Nearby airports, bag fees and open-jaw routings can each flip which fare is really cheapest. The cheapest day to fly goes through those levers one by one.
Cheap flights: common questions
Does the month or the day of the week matter more for a cheap ticket?
The month, by a wide margin. In our July 2026 snapshot of 59 routes, the gap between the cheapest and priciest month often ran 30 to 60 percent, while mid-week departures save about 13 percent over weekends. The 59-route price study.
Should I wait for a particular weekday to book?
No. In Google's fare data the day you book moves the price by only around 1 percent. The day you fly matters far more. Why the booking day barely matters.
Do cheap seats sell out on popular dates?
Yes, on summer and Christmas dates the lowest fare classes go first, so start watching those trips a month or two earlier than you normally would. For ordinary dates there is no need to book a year out. Booking windows by trip type.
Does Mondotickets sell the tickets?
No. The search shows live prices from many airlines and booking sites side by side. When you pick a fare you book it directly with that airline or agency, and we do not add a booking fee.
